I'm currently 19 years old. I got in trouble when I was younger (18) and have an arrest record. I have NOT been charged with any felonies, or with anything.

I'm attempting to get into army Delta but changing to airborne rangers, when I turn 21 I hope to transfer to the green berets.

My recruiter has told me because I was arrested, even though I plead no-contest, have not been charged with any felonies, that their is almost no chance for me to join. That I have to wait for a wavier coming in October.

I have a friend who is higher up in the field, told me what my recruiter said is a lie.

I would like ANY input, any advice on this.

Thanks.

You may want to try another

You may want to try another recruiter, however the Army can find out pretty much anything about your past (expunged/juvenile record or not) and depending on what the arrest was for, it may be an automatic DQ.

The waivers given out are also dependent upon the current economy - MSG Glenn has mentioned to many people that the maximum age and number of waivers being granted are going down.

Good luck.

Admin is right..

...about the Army able to find ANY police records you may have. Even some misdemeanors are automatically disqualifying AT THIS TIME. If you were to lie about even a very minor offense & it was found (as it will be) then that's an automatic DQ right there. There might be altogether different policy next month. Who knows. It all depends on the needs of the Army. Several years ago felons were allowed to enlist in some cases but I haven't heard of any for quite some time.

Drug offenses are always disqualifying. There have been some waivers in the past for some very minor ones but if it's trafficking then you're SOL.

As it's already been advised - contact a different Recruiter but I have a feeling that the one you're seeing now will have all of the latest, most up-to-date policies. It never hurts to get a second opinion.

From what I've been told a good time to try to enlist if you're having any trouble doing it now is around Christmas time, say November to late January. That's been traditionally a slow time for recruiting. Sometimes special exceptions are made in order for recruiting districts that are too slow meet their recruitment mission. Could be different now with the civilian job outlook so crappy.
