I have a few questions regarding joining the Army. For quite a while now I have been doing some research and finally registered here to get more information about the Army. I am a college graduate and currently one semester away from attaining a Master's degree in Criminal Justice. I have maintained at least a 3.5 GPA in both Undergraduate and Graduate coursework. If I join, what is the likelihood of gaining entrance into OCS as I see the competitive nature of applicants? Thanks in advance for your replies.
It's getting increasingly difficult getting a 09S OCS contract as it is just getting into the Army as an enlisted person. A Masters with a 3.5 GPA will help.
I know there are sites devoted to OCS applicants & those interested in applying. I'm sure there's some up-to-date info there.
If you can't immediately get a 09S contract but decide to enlist & try again later when there are openings you'd go into the Army as a SPC, E-4. Either way you'd have to go to BCT & if you get a high rifle marksmanship & APFT score that, too will help.
Check with a Recruiter to find out the possibilities. He may find that someone of your caliber can slide right in. He can get you information on what documentation will help you. I know you'll probably have to have Letters of Recommendation.
A Masters in Criminal Justice will not necessarily get the job you want as an Officer. That's determined by the Order of Merit List at OCS. Class standing, APFT & Rifle Marksmanship plus a peer & Instructor report determines what your standing is. Those who score high with leadership characteristics normally get the job they want from the list of your top 3 choices. Of course the needs of the Army is always in effect.
If I can find more info for you I'll post it in this thread. I have a young man who recently graduated OCS on another site. He's going through Signal OBC right now & isn't available all the time.
