Like you said Army Rangers needs option 40 contract and special forces needs 18x contract. Then what would be another good choice to actually get training to later become an independent contracter to go to places to help people by your own choice? I was studing diffrent stuff and researching i am going to buy the kaplans asvab study guide so i am studing and getting in shape. But what would be a good other way of actually getting the training to train people, help and protect people around the world.
I'd say Infantry would be the best followed by Cavalry Scout, MP, & probably any of the Combat Arms MOSs. I'd also add Civil Affairs to that list. I recommend getting an Airborne contract with any of those. They're all good ways of getting leadership positions - Team Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Sgt, etc. (depending on how long you stay in the Army) Those are the prime instructors in the field & in garrison. Every NCO from CPL on up is a teacher of their troops, even Specialists. Not to say that the technical MOSs are totally useless for that purpose but you'd be teaching more in your specialty rather than in combat situations.
I would be out about 40 years old. So i got time anyways ill study and research on what you just said.
...you'll have the opportunity to go to many schools, especially leadership schools, & you'll have a pretty decent retirement income as well.
An Airborne Soldier typically goes to Jumpmaster, Pathfinder, Air Assault & Ranger Schools. That's not even considering Instructor Schools & NCO courses. Getting into a Ranger Batt or SF will also allow you to apply to Special Forces Divers School, HALO School & some language courses. Language School is a requirement for SF.
Might as well stay for 30 & collect 75% of your base pay for the rest of your life.
But would doing what just what you said after 20 years would i be able to help whoever i would wish to help out there around the world. I mean not actually providing things to them which they would appreciate alot. But this sounds a little weird but actually helping elimanating the cause of there oppresion. I mean i am not a fan of much media i never watch any of it never had. But i want to be the one to help end most people's enemies. Basically killing those who are killing them. I want everything to do with people there. I mean there is nothing more important than people right. Then i want to help them there. And i be there for the rest of half my life other than the 20-30 years in the army. Yeah i checked out the ones you told me to. I know the rest is really depending on me to get in shape and research and head out to do it.
... in the Army should give you plenty of opportunities to kill the enemy of the downtrodden. Like we did to Saddam Hussein & his Baath party in Iraq & the Taliban in Afghanistan. You'll be doing this under the protection of the American flag & not as a mercenary. We as the American military don't vanquish a nation only to leave it in ruins but build them up to something better than they had originally. I hope you realize how much infrastructure & medical aid we give to those countries. We have whole Army units involved with that mission. Building roads, supplying fresh water, food, medicine, building schools, suppling educational materials - the list goes on & on not to mention the combat troops killing those who would do the natives harm if they went unchecked.
I am not going to quick ill study as go up and after the 20 years ill know what i am going to do. My goal is to bring and order not war. But from what i heard from this conversation i have a lot to learn. But right now worry about what i am going for now and asvab and getting in shape.
Step 1 - Get in shape
Step 2 - Study for the ASVAB
Step 3 - Research MOSs & opportunities
Step 4 - Get in shape
Step 5 - Study for the ASVAB
Step 6 - Once you start getting close to your required level of physical shape/weight & you are familiar with the insides of an ASVAB see a Recruiter
Of course you can intermingle all of the above steps, study & get in shape at the same time. While resting from your labors you can use Google or any search engine & do some research, especially if you can walk & chew gum at the same time.
Is it possible though if i became a weapons sergant later on after infantry and calvery scout and etc. I am planning on taking all leadership classes i come accross. Then later later later on go into counter terrioism. CAG. I am not saying for sure but just currious?
You probably won't be Infantry AND Cavalry Scout. Although the jobs are similar at times those are two entirely different MOSs. If you start out as an Infantryman you probably won't want to reclassify to Cav Scout & vice versa. By the way - Infantry has it's own scouts as an additional skill.
Weapons Sgt is a duty position not an MOS except in Special Forces. There you normally don't get to choose your MOS but are assigned to the school according to the requirements of SF. If you choose to & are able to get an 18X contract your 18-series MOS is chosen for you as well as what language school they want you to go to. This all happens after Infantry School, Airborne School, SFAS & SF Qualification Course.
Leadership courses are required for promotion so there aren't any choices there.
Like I said - take it one step at a time. Opportunities to get trained in special skills will be available but only if the unit you're in needs those skills. It costs them money to train you & sometimes the only time you can volunteer for that additional training will be at re-enlistment time as an incentive. Airborne School is one example. If you're in a non-Airborne unit that'll probably be the only time you'll be approved to go. That's why if you want to be jump qualified it's best to get it in your original enlistment contract. Your chances of getting assigned to an Airborne unit are much greater & therefore your chances of going to Ranger School are pretty good. Ranger School is not an enlistment option but an Option 40 Ranger contract is. If you make it through Ranger selection you'll be assigned to a Ranger Battalion & then Ranger School is mandatory sometime within your first year that you're in the 75th Ranger Regiment. Note: MOS 19D, Cavalry Scout, cannot get an Option 40 contract. The 75th has no slots for 19 series MOSs.
Okay thanks
Im not going to diffrent countries to kill people there. I was actually wanting to get involved with the stuff that are good ways of doing it to cause peace and order in those areas not destruction people around it. I want to help everyone my conscience wont leave it. So i got to help them. To be honest like people and what they stand for. And i like to see them happy by doing it to. Plus you know i am actually planning on doing civil affairs later anyways. Most my family that went into the military later did the peace corps. So i know all the people that they help. I wasnt talking about a mercenary. I didnt hate mercenaries because there are someways they are good to have. Thanks for answering my question though so i will get in shape this month lose all that excess weight and contact a recruiter as soon as possible and start my 20-30 year career. I will enjoy it.
...MOS 38A, Civil Affairs Specialist. If you still want to do that type of work after you get out of the Army forget about Rangers & SF. Their main job, as it is with every Soldier is to kill the enemy.
I have no idea if there are any openings in that MOS but I think you should do some research on it & see if that's the type of training you want that can help you after the Army.
I was reading and came accross this what is this i was confused on reading it.
...can't say. I think I heard about it but I have no idea what they do.
I am reading i think i will just go for infantry and wont have problem with physical part and asvab. I am buying two good study guides for them and just study a bunch of study guides for them like Kaplans version and other website versions and maybe librarys versions. The physical part of basic training i will work hard all year starting tomorrow. Run maybe a couple miles altogether a day and pt traing on those days. My goal is to get highest on pt test and asvab test. And GT. Just cause i like it perfect. I got my own goals of physical fitness i had before i thought about joining. I am looking into getting infantry airborne and maybe going to a airborne infantry and then civil affairs later. I am still researching thanks for answering my questions.
To me becoming a soldier is a dream, but joining the special forces or us army rangers I know I can become one of the few to accomplish any challenge or command given to me! My question is; What if I have an obsolete combat training, trade's & skill requirements, yet not scoring high enough; Is there still a possibility of becoming a(n) Ranger, or even a Warrior in the Special Forces... To me its not about the money, nor the benefits, But serving with my new brother's & sister's, & protecting my country, Also bout finding who I really am, and what the Army can Make me a better disciplined Man! & Soldier to my home land?. "Set a goal, Challenge your self, build your confidence, don't quit, never say no, & in the end you will & shall accomplish your mission".
You need a GT score of 110 to get an 18X SF contract. Lately I've heard you also need that for an Option 40 Ranger contract. I'm not sure if that's right. That wasn't the case a few years ago. A Recruiter can tell you for sure.
Regardless whether you qualify or not get into shape. Even if you have to settle for just plain Infantry or some other MOS being in shape will make your initial training easier & you'll definitely need it for SF or Rangers.
